Hunting adult male wild boar and yearlings is permitted throughout the year, while hunting wild sows and piglets lasts from 1 July to 29 February of the following year.
The best time to hunt wild boar is usually in the early morning or late evening because wild boar are nocturnal and are most active then while searching for food. Wild boar hunting is also often most successful during the colder months, when the animals move more in order to maintain their body temperature. In summer, when temperatures are high, they are less active and often remain hidden in the shade during the day.
It is important to note that wild boar hunting can be dangerous. For that reason, hunters should not go alone and should have appropriate experience.
One method of hunting wild boar is to use a raised hunting stand. It provides a better view of the terrain and makes it easier to spot game, thereby increasing hunter safety. Stands may be fixed or mobile, and each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. Fixed stands are more stable and the game becomes accustomed to them, whereas mobile stands offer greater flexibility and can be placed where the animals appear only periodically. A raised stand also reduces the likelihood that game will detect the hunter’s scent and flee.
